Hot on the Press!

All year we’ve been working with Martin Lewsley of Hull graphic design agency Atomluft on the River Full of Stories book. Martin’s done an incredible job, piecing everything together meticulously and making the whole thing look fabulous. The final designs were delivered to Wyke Printers on Sutton Fields at the beginning of this week where Dave, Andy, John and the team have been brilliant in helping us get everything right. The paper arrived from G.F. Smith on Lockwood Street on Tuesday and we’re delighted that so far the whole project and book has been delivered and produced by people from Hull.

Yesterday we were shown around the shop floor at Wyke as plates were being prepared, colours analysed and test pages run. A River Full of Stories is on the press, being printed this weekend, ready to be bound.

We will be delivering a River Full of Stories to all Hull and East Riding libraries and museums at the beginning of October.

Here’s a gallery from yesterday’s visit to Wyke.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our ‘Open Bridges: A River Full Of Stories’ project.

Open Bridges made history when for the first time all 13 bridges over the River Hull in the UK’s City of Culture 2017 raised, swung or closed simultaneously splitting the city of Hull in two at 20:17 hours on 22nd September 2017.  Historic vessels sailed down the river, met by 21st century tugs, to the sound of a new musique concrète work by composer John Stead.

Open Bridges is an independent Hull/East Yorkshire based project.

  1. I cannot begin to imagine how very excited you must be. I send you my most sincere congratulations and look forward to seeing the book in print – though, as Swanland has an East Riding Library as opposed to a Hull one – I expect I shall have to come into town to have this pleasure.
