Happy Birthday Syntan

Happy 70th Birthday to the motor barge Syntan! Beautifully restored by the Beverley Barge Preservation Society and moored at Beverley Beck, the Syntan is having a weekend of celebrations to mark 70 years since she was built – in 1949 by Hepworth’s Shipyard in Paull – for Richard Hodgson Tanners in Beverley.

We had a great time there yesterday, Rich & I played some songs on the deck, were entertained by the most excellent Hull style Americana of Work in Progress and went for a lovely trip up the beck on the Mermaid. Thanks to all our friends at the Beverley Barge Preservation Society. We’re heading back to the beck for more celebrations today.

All welcome to the celebrations today, Sunday 14th April, visit the historic vessels, music and refreshments, 10 am –  4 pm.

Open Bridges made history when for the first time all 13 of the bridges over the River Hull in the UK’s City of Culture 2017 raised, swung or closed simultaneously splitting the city of Hull in two at 20:17 hours on 22nd September 2017.  Historic vessels sailed down the River to be met by 21st century tugs.

Open Bridges is an independent not for profit Hull/East Yorkshire based project.
