Hull’s Waterfront In the late Fifties
We came across the work of Frank Drasdo when we were working on the book ‘A River Full of Stories’. Frank’s work features extensively in the book and we are indebted to Frank’s nephew, photographer Dave Drasdo, for permission to publish them there and in this new gallery of images depicting Hull’s waterfront in the late 1950s.
Frank’s use of colour was pioneering then, and there are some compositions that should be hanging in galleries. I guess if Frank had been taking the same colour photographs in the 1950s in Paris or Berlin for example, he would be a household name, and you’d be able to pick up the latest retrospective in Waterstones.
However, thanks to Dave, we can publish this new gallery here, and you can find more of Frank Drasdo’s fantastic images in the book ‘A River Full of Stories’ at any Hull and East Riding library.
