King George Dock, May 1961 Part 1

This set of images were taken one day in May in 1961, the photographer unknown. The cleaning and restoration took me days. The first seven are mainly of the Blue Star Line, which looks like the main subject and what the photographer was specifically focussing on. However, a closer look reveals the brown scrumbled wheelhouse of a barge, dwarfed but clear against the black hull of the Colorado Star.

In next week’s second set, the barges and tugs are more evident and take centre stage.

Taken on Agfacolour L CT18 colour slide film, which adverts at the time proclaimed – “a natural, true-to-life quality not obtained in other film” – and taken on a dull day, they retain all of the detail with a beautiful sixties grainy quality of one persons record of a snapshot in time. If you have any information about the photographs or photographer, please get in touch.
