Ex-Commercial Barge Get-together
We’ve just got back from a great afternoon at Rawcliffe Bridge, and the ex-commercial barge get together, sharing a pint and stories at Dean’s Marina and the Anchorage Inn.
The barges moored for the weekend so far included Hargreaves’ No.10, Harkers ex-tankers the Freda Carless and Londsdale, Hogson’s Sectan, the Maureen Eva, the Victory from Rotherham, and the George Dyson.
It was great to meet up with John and Kevin again from the Goole and York trip, as well as Darren from the Freda Carless and to meet Dan, and be shown round the No.10 and to be invited aboard the Sectan to meet Daz and his dad.
On the deck of the George Dyson, Captain Cod’s peahen George introduced herself and under the bridge we met George, Harry and James, and their incredibly detailed working remote control scale models of tug, barge and Freda Carless.
There are still two weekend open days to go so all you have to do is exit the M62 at Junction 36 and head towards Rawcliffe, then Rawcliffe Bridge, to find a warm welcome from Sarah behind the bar at The Anchorage and find out more about these incredible vessels and the importance of keeping this history alive and the inland waterways open.
