Hull Docks 1980s Part 5 by Bernard Sharp

  1. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Sunday, 3 October, 1982. On a misty morning, the sail training ship ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ is moored on the north side of the dock.
  2. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Monday, 6 May, 1985. The replica of the ‘Golden Hinde’ moored on the north side of the dock. The tower of the Guildhall can be seen at the extreme right.
  3. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Friday, 8 June, 1984. Training Ship ‘Royalist’, a brig, launched 1971, operated as a sail training ship by the Marine Society & Sea Cadets. The ship was refitted in 1992 and re-launched. Still in service.
  4. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Friday, 8 June, 1984. ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ built 1966 by Richard Dunston Ltd., Hessle, Yorkshire, to compete in the Tall Ships Race. A sail training ship until sold out of service in 2000. Currently serves as a private yacht. The ship has just sailed through the lock and entered the dock. Note the crew on the rigging.
  5. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Monday, 6 May, 1985. Malcolm Miller, a sail training ship, built Aberdeen 1967. Sold out of service in 2001. Laid up following a fire in 2008.
  6. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Friday, 8 June, 1984. ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ built 1966 by Richard Dunston Ltd., Hessle, Yorkshire, to compete in the Tall Ships Race. A sail training ship until sold out of service in 2000. Currently serves as a private yacht. The crew of the ship on the rigging.
  7. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, 1984. The sail training ship ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ enters the dock from the Humber estuary. The eastern docks can be seen on the horizon.
  8. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Friday, 8 June, 1984. The sail training ship ‘Royalist’ enters the dock from the Humber estuary. The eastern docks can be seen on the horizon.
  9. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Friday, 8 June, 1984. ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ built 1966 by Richard Dunston Ltd., Hessle, Yorkshire, to compete in the Tall Ships Race. A sail training ship until sold out of service in 2000. Currently serves as a private yacht. The crew on board as the ship passes through the lock to enter the dock.
  10. Albert Dock, Kingston upon Hull, Friday, 8 June, 1984. Two pilot boats leave the dock, through the lock, to enter the Humber estuary. The ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ sail training ship can be seen in the background, with crew on the rigging.
