Drypool Bridge and a Link to Larkin

With the compliments of RICHARDS, HIBBERT & Co.

This is an advertising, complimentary card for the clients and potential customers of Richards, Hibbert & Co, Incorporated Marine and General Insurance Brokers, founded in Hull in 1892. The card is professionally produced, unusually A4 in size, it looks great on our wall and shows a rare sketch of the original Drypool Bridge, built in 1889 and replaced in 1961.

There is a fascinating article written by Hull based insurance historian Andrew Carrick, about Hull insurance broker Kenneth Hibbert.

The article includes some entertaining, and little known correspondence from Hibbert’s friend, the poet Philip Larkin in December 1970, whilst at All Souls College, Oxford, about a claim for some missing laundry.

Andrew Carrick’s article is on the Insurance Museum website and you can read it in full here: https://insurance.museum/history-snippet
